SUMMARY:Achieving Superior Clinical Results in Modern Dental Implantology with Alex Molinari\, DDS\, MS\, PhD
DESCRIPTION:March 28\, 2025\nFriday\, 8:30am-12:30pm \nTuition: $395\nLecture: 4CE credits\, AGD Code 610 \nCourse Objectives: \nSince the concept of osseointegration was discovered in the 1950’s by Professor Brånemark\, many studies have shown high success rates centered around the functionality of dental implants with little regard for esthetics. The longevity of an implant inserted into bone is no longer an issue\, but the longevity of the crowns over these implants is now more important\, not only from the functional aspect but also from the esthetic point of view. Another important issue to be observed is the way the soft and hard tissues behave once an implant receives function.\nJoin us for this engaging and informative course led by Dr. Alex Molinari\, a distinguished authority in the field of dental implants. This seminar will delve into the evolving landscape of dental implantology\, where aesthetic outcomes are now just as critical as functional success. \nBy the end of this seminar\, participants will gain valuable insights into the following areas:\n• Three-Dimensional Implant Placement: Understand the critical importance of visualizing and planning implant placement in three dimensions to ensure optimal positioning and long-term success.\n• Restoration Levels: Implant vs. Abutment: Learn about the distinctions between implant and abutment levels\, and how these affect the overall treatment plan and aesthetic results.\n• Abutment Collar Height Selection: Discover how to select the appropriate abutment collar height while considering biological width\, ensuring healthy soft tissue management around the implant.\n• Bone Crest Optimization and Soft Tissue Maintenance: Explore techniques to optimize the bone crest and maintain soft tissue health\, which are essential for achieving optimal aesthetic outcomes.\n• Balancing Function\, Aesthetics\, Phonetics\, and Hygiene: Analyze the interplay between function and aesthetics\, as well as phonetic considerations versus hygiene. Understand which factors should take precedence in various clinical scenarios.\n• Long-Term Prevention of Peri-Implant Complications: Gain insights into effective implant maintenance and home care strategies to prevent peri-implant complications and ensure long-term success.\n• Optimizing Hygiene and Regenerative Therapy in Everyday Clinical Practice: Learn practical approaches to enhance hygiene protocols and incorporate regenerative therapies into your routine practice for improved patient outcomes. \nDr. Alex Molinari is currently the Director of Education for Neodent USA\, Inc. Dr. Molinari received a PhD in Periodontics from the Pontifical Catholic University of Paraná (PUC-PR_BRAZIL)\, and a master’s degree of implantology by the São Leopoldo Mandic University(Campinas\, BRAZIL). Dr. Molinari is a specialist in periodontics at the University of Santa Catarina (UFSC–Florianopolis–BRAZIL) and holds a graduate degree in implant prosthesis from the University of Sagrado Coração (USC–Bauru–BRAZIL). He formerly taught at ILAPEO in Curitiba\, BRAZIL and was a Neodent consultant for 14 years. His research has been published in 12 publications and he has presented at more than 900 conferences in 20 different countries.

SUMMARY:Implant Treatment Planning and Surgical Guides: From Single Tooth to Full Arch with Tim Hart\, DDS\, MS
DESCRIPTION:January 31\, 2025\nFriday\, 10:00am-2:00pm \nRegistration Fee: Complimentary\nLecture: 3CE credits \nAdvancements on several fronts have created a paradigm shift in the field of implant surgical guides. Cone beam CT\, additive manufacturing (3D Printing)\, and point cloud merging have combined to make CBCT derived surgical guides cost effective for not only fully guided cases\, but for pilot drill guides as well. Many practitioners are under the impression that CBCT derived guides represent a complicated process that involves scanning appliances and multiple CT scans. This program will discuss why this is no longer true\, and present the simplified workflow that is now possible in today’s general practice\, making it ideal to grow both surgical and restorative implant services. \nObjectives\n• Review the concepts of digital dentistry that make CBCT guided surgical guided surgery (and all other digital dentistry) possible\n• Discover the dramatic decline in the cost of this treatment from 1997 to 2024\n• Learn the difference between computer guided and computer assisted techniques\n• Understand the computer guided workflow\, especially what is needed to setup cases \nTim Hart\, DDS\, MS\nDr. Tim Hart graduated from Loyola University School of Dentistry in 1977\, and the Fixed Prosthodontic Residency program in 1980. He was awarded the American Academy of Crown and Bridge Prosthodontics’ Stanley Tylman Research Award in 1981 for 3D modeling of the human condylar displacement using transform matrices. From 1977 to 1997\, he practiced in Kenosha\, WI and Racine\, WI. From 1997 to 2017\, he practiced in Shorewood Wisconsin\, winning multiple awards for “Best Dentist” in both local monthly publications (Milwaukee Magazine and M Magazine). In 2007\, Dr. Hart and Dr. Phil Hawkins (oral surgeon) founded and for a decade co-directed the Third Coast Study Club\, an affiliate of the Seattle Study Club system. Since his retirement in 2017\, Dr. Hart has maintained a privately run business focusing on surgical guide design and production\, as well as medical models for surgical rehearsal. He also provides custom CNC wood fixtures to local remodeling contractors. His spare time activities include family (2 families\, 4 grandkids in town)\, cycling\, running\, and relearning to ski.

SUMMARY:Uppers from Mars/Lowers from Venus: Clarifying Overdentures with Hands-On Workshop - Clinical Pick Up & Impressions with M. Nader Sharifi\, DDS\, MS
DESCRIPTION:Thursday: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM\nFriday: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM \nTuition: $1495.\nCE Credits: 16 Credits \nCourse Descriptions and Objectives: \nPatients will often do anything they can to avoid wearing a complete denture including staying in a failing dentition when dentistry offers improvements. Overdentures help overcome the obstacle of the failing dentition. The use of residual abutments to stabilize and retain a denture as an overdenture is nothing new\, but often misunderstood. This course will address the option of overdentures with implants as the abutments. We will discuss how the number and location of abutments will influence the final design of the overdenture itself. \nOverdentures are different on implants than they are on teeth. We’ll discuss those differences and provide options to make them similar. Each participant will learn how many implants are necessary and where they should be placed. We’ll discuss many attachment options that are on the market. These attachments will be broken down into simple categories to understand their similarities. We’ll create clear guidelines for selecting one attachment over another. \nParticipants review state-of-the-art procedures for the highest quality overdentures while we complete the clinical procedures of the three most influential steps associated with denture fabrication. This includes initial and final impressions\, the development of the centric relation record as well as delivery of a denture with finalization of the occlusal scheme. \nAs an extension of the lecture portion of this course participants will complete two hands on exercises. We will make final impressions on the models with two different techniques to compare the results. We will also complete a pick-up of an attachment under a complete denture. The denture and model can be taken home as a demonstrator model for patient education. \nParticipants leave with increased confidence and a clear understanding of: \n\nHow the number of implants and location of abutments influences the outcome\nHow the anatomic limitations should direct the number and type of attachments\nAttachment options: is one better than another? Which ones–and when?\nRecord Collection: Using esthetics and phonetics to develop wax rims\nHow to overcome limitations with digital soft tissue scanning\nImpression Techniques: What to use while we wait on scanning soft tissue\nCentric Relation: The most critical step to denture success – made easier\nProsthesis Delivery: Nothing’s more important than occlusion\nIncludes hands-on workshops for attachment pick up and impression techniques\n\nM. Nader Sharifi\, D.D.S.\, M.S. holds a certificate in prosthodontics and a masters degree in biomaterials from Northwestern University. He received his dental education at the University of Illinois. He has presented more than 500 lectures covering numerous topics on restorative dentistry earning him recognition from esteemed study groups\, societies and associations across the nation and internationally. \nDr. Sharifi currently maintains a full-time private practice of prosthodontics in Chicago’s downtown loop and uses his experience as a five day a week wet gloved dentist to ensure time saving and cost effective care are represented in his presentations. In 2007\, the Chicago Dental Society honored him with the Gordon Christenson Distinguished Lecturer Award. He has also been honored with Fellowship in the American College of Dentists and Membership in the American Academy of Restorative Dentistry – both in 2010.

SUMMARY:Occlusion and TMD; Occlusal Splint Treatment with Jim McKee\, DDS
DESCRIPTION:March 16-17\, 2023\nFriday: 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM\nSaturday: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM \nTuition: $1495.\nCE Credits: 16 Credits \nCourse Descriptions and Objectives:\nMost dentists would agree that occlusion and TMD are two of the more confusing disciplines in our profession. Much of this confusion relates how we define occlusion. Occlusion is defined as how the teeth fit together. As a result\, most of the occlusal discussion revolves around the front end of the system or how to get the teeth to fit together. Today\, we know that occlusion is not just about how the teeth fit together but how the lower jaw and upper jaw fit together. If we define occlusion as how lower jaw and upper jaw fit together\, then we are\nrequired not only to examine the front end of the system (the teeth) but also the back end of the system (the TM joints). \nGiven that we are seeing increasing levels of frequency and severity of structural changes in the TM joints at earlier ages than previously assumed\, it is vital to understand the anatomy in order to assess the potential for adaptation for structurally damaged TM joint. Evaluating the TM joints helps both the patient and the dentist understand if there additional risk factors regarding pain levels or bite changes. Understanding both the front end of the system (the teeth) and the backend of the system (the TM joints)\, we can offer our patients a new level of clinical predictability in as occlusal treatment\, orthodontic therapy\, restorative dentistry\, implant dentistry\, airway dentistry and orthognathic surgery. The concepts discussed will be applicable to every patient in your practice. This program will address these concepts through a combination of lecture and case studies. \nLearning objectives: \n1. Gain confidence in diagnosing the condition of the TM joints and how this information directly impacts treatment planning \n2. Learn when to image\, how to image and what can be learned from imaging the TM joint \n3. Discover why Class II occlusions in young females pose a special and significant risk for orthodontic treatment \n4. Understand when to consider occlusal appliance therapy\, when to consider equilibration\, when to consider both and when to consider neither \n5. Learn treatment planning protocols that can be used for any patient \n6. Understand the managerial principles necessary to implement occlusal concepts in an everyday practice
